A man, identified simply as Adegoke Tee, has been arrested by the police in connection with a road accident that claimed the lives of two policemen in Osun State.
The suspect was apprehended on Friday, two days after the fatal incident occurred at Oogi community in Ayedaade local government council area of the state.
The deceased officers, identified as Corporal Oluwatobiloba Odedina and Kehinde Adeleke, were reportedly travelling home from an official assignment when they were struck by a Lexus vehicle.
The accident, which occurred on Wednesday, resulted in the immediate death of the two officers and sparked concern among residents of the community.
Sources familiar with the incident said the driver allegedly abandoned the vehicle at the scene and fled to avoid being attacked by an angry crowd that gathered after the crash.
Following the incident, the Osun State Police Command launched a manhunt for the suspect, leading to his arrest on Friday.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the suspect had been taken into custody.
Ojelabi stated, “One Adegoke was arrested and the matter was transferred to the Traffic Unit in Osogbo.”
The Osun State Police Command has not disclosed further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the crash or possible charges against the suspect.
