Hampshire Police planned to issue a statement addressing “disinformation” during the trial of Vickrum Digwa, who was convicted of murdering Henry Nowak.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) advised the police against releasing the statement, warning it could jeopardise the “integrity” of the ongoing legal proceedings.
Vickrum Digwa was sentenced to life imprisonment for stabbing 18-year-old Henry Nowak, who died in police custody after officers handcuffed him despite his pleas of being stabbed.
Public anger intensified following the release of police body-worn video, leading to protests and 11 people being charged after violent clashes.
The incident has sparked a political row, drawing comments from the Prime Minister, Kemi Badenoch, Nigel Farage, JD Vance, and Elon Musk, with an Independent Office for Police Conduct investigation underway.
