A massive fire at a block of flats in Plymouth has left multiple roads closed with emergency services flooding the scene.
The fire is ongoing at a top-floor flat on the city’s Vauxhall Street, with a huge smoke plume seen from miles around.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue crews are at the scene with eight fire engines attending, Plymouth Live reports.
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said several homes had been evacuated.

Footage from the scene earlier shows a number of firefighters approaching the building as smoke rises from a top-floor flat, which appears to have been significantly damaged.

Fire crews have asked people to avoid the area and urged those nearby to keep their doors and windows shut as they continue to extinguish the blaze.

Devon and Cornwall Police say residents living close to the fire on Vauxhall Street have been evacuated from their homes.
No injuries have been reported, it added. “Our officers are currently at the scene of a property fire in Vauxhall Street, Plymouth, along with fire and ambulance service colleagues,” a statement reads.
“A number of nearby residents have been evacuated but no injuries have been reported.”

The fire has broken out at a top-floor flat on Vauxhall Street.
The historic road is located in the Barbican district of Plymouth and is one of the few city areas that survived widespread World War 2 bombing, with multiple structures dating back to the 16th century.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue received multiple reports of a fire coming from a top floor flat in Plymouth just before 5pm.
On arrival, crews confirmed there to be smoke and flames issuing and have since requested a further five fire engines.
