Two people have been rushed to hospital after a plane crashed into a field near Pitsford.
The light aircraft plunged into the field close to Northampton at around 3:50pm, sparking a rescue mission by police and fire crews.
Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said it had closed surrounding roads to allow emergency vehicles to access the scene and evacuate two people from the aircraft.
The two patients were left in the care of paramedics before being taken to University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire, where they remain for treatment.
A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police said: “We were called to a report of light aircraft crash near Pitsford.
“Two people have been taken to hospital for treatment, and an investigation into what happened has begun. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch have been informed.”
In a statement released earlier this evening, Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews were called shortly after 15:45 BST to reports of a light aircraft coming down in a field, and on arrival firefighters helped to close off nearby roads to ensure emergency vehicles could access the scene.
“Two people have been evacuated from the aircraft, and have been left in the care of paramedics. The fire service remains at the scene and is continuing to assist police and ambulance.”
