A much-loved celebrity chef and restaurateur has died suddenly, his team have confirmed. Dom Taylor was best known for winning Five Star Kitchen: Britain’s Next Great Chef in 2023.
Soon after the chef won the cooking show, he began a 10-month residency at the luxury London hotel The Langham, with his Caribbean restaurant The Good Food Room. The restaurant received rave reviews and has since moved to Dalston, Hackney.
The restaurant shared the news of his death on Instagram, with a simple post saying he would be “deeply missed” and that his legacy would “continue to inspire” those around him, reports the Mirror.

“We are deeply saddened to share the news of the sudden passing of our founder, Chef Dom Taylor,” the post began. “Dom was a visionary whose bold, joyful approach to celebrating the Caribbean cuisine of his childhood brought a fresh and exciting voice to London’s restaurant scene.
“His passion, talent and generosity touched so many people, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him and experiencing his food. He will be deeply missed, and our thoughts are with his family, friends and everyone whose lives he touched during this incredibly difficult time.
“We kindly ask that everyone respects the privacy of Dom’s loved ones at this time. The Good Front Room will remain open as we honour Dom’s legacy and continue the work he was so passionate about. We appreciate your understanding and support during this difficult period.”

Fans, colleagues, and those who were inspired by him have shared tribute to the star. Craig and Shaun McAnuff said: “Heartbreaking news. A true pioneer, truly lost for words. Prayers to his family.”
Journalist Paula Akpan commented: “It was a real honour to interview Dom earlier this year, I was so moved by how beautifully he channelled the memories and culinary traditions of the matriarchs in his family into The Good Front Room. I’m so deeply sorry and thinking of all his loved ones.”
Food writer, Melissa Thompson commented: “Sending love and strength to the team. Dom was a very special person.”
A former colleague also commented: “Dom gave me my first ever job/job in the cheffing world and taught me so much. So sad to hear this news and sending lots of love to family, friends, and staff during this heartbreaking time.”

Just five weeks ago, Dom shared on social media that he loved that people came together in his restaurant and encouraged his followers to swing by: “One of the things I love most about The Good Front Room is seeing people come together around a table. Friends catching up, families sharing food, people meeting for the first time and leaving as friends.
“That’s what we’ve tried to create here. A place that feels welcoming, relaxed and full of good energy. If you’ve not been down for a while, it’d be great to see you. If you’ve never visited before, come and say hello. Dom Taylor.”
