Bryson DeChambeau, Tommy Fleetwood and Robert MacIntyre are amongst the golfing stars who failed to make the cut at the PGA Championship.
Aronimink Golf Club proved progressively demanding for some of the PGA Tour and LIV Golf’s leading players across the opening two rounds, with several high-profile names eliminated ahead of the weekend following their disappointing performances.
While a field of 156 competitors took to the greens and fairways of Pennsylvania on Thursday, only the leading 83 progressed to the weekend’s action. DeChambeau was one of the more unlucky heavyweights from the golfing world who exited the tournament after merely two rounds. The two-time US Open champion faced an uphill battle heading into Friday’s round, having posted six over par on Thursday.

And while the 32-year-old, along with golf enthusiasts watching globally, will have anticipated a late rally, the fightback never quite materialised for the Crushers GC captain – departing in T114 with an aggregate score of SEVEN over par. DeChambeau wasn’t the sole major contender who found the Pennsylvanian course difficult to master, though.
Crowd favourite Fleetwood concluded his second round with an aggregate score of five over par, returning to the UK without silverware as his lengthy quest for major honours continues. Scotland’s MacIntyre accompanied him, posting the same aggregate score after a disastrous second round of 75.

Elsewhere, Team Europe Ryder Cup stalwart Viktor Hovland bowed out of the tournament at six over par on Friday, as did his team-mate Sepp Straka. In contrast, several of the pre-tournament favourites remain firmly in contention to claim the prestigious PGA Championship title this weekend.
Scottie Scheffler will be eyeing a successful title defence by the close of Sunday’s play, and is well positioned to do so — currently sitting T9 in the standings with an overall score of two under par. Cameron Young and Justin Thomas share the identical score and position heading into moving day.
Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, bounced back from a disastrous opening round to card a three under par 67 during Friday’s play, lifting him to T30 and back in the mix at one over par. American trio Jordan Spieth, Xander Schauffele and Brooks Koepka are all level with McIlroy at one over, while Jon Rahm sits T16 at one under and Shane Lowry finds himself T68 at four over.
