Passengers hit with charges for taking food to their cabins on popular cruise ship

Costa Cruises is implementing a €60 cleaning fee for passengers who take buffet food back to their cabins on select sailings.
The Italian cruise line, a subsidiary of Carnival Corporation, states this measure is a preventative step to address sanitation and hygiene concerns.
Guests were notified that all food must be consumed exclusively in designated dining areas, with only trained room service staff permitted to deliver food to cabins.
A Costa Cruises spokesperson confirmed the policy, emphasising guest safety and wellbeing, and noted that room service remains available upon request.
The new rule has sparked debate among cruise travellers online, with some supporting it due to mess in hallways, while others object to losing the convenience of eating in their cabins or on balconies.
