Passenger sues Carnival Cruise over ‘life changing injury’

Florida resident Jorge Luis Alverio Nunez is suing Carnival for over $5 million, claiming he suffered severe second-degree burns on his feet on the Lido deck of the Carnival Magic ship.
Nunez alleges the deck was “unreasonably and dangerously hot,” causing injuries within seconds while he walked barefoot from the pool to his lounge chair in May 2025.
The lawsuit states that Carnival had been warned by the deck manufacturer as early as 2014 about the potential for the surface to become dangerously hot.
Carnival is accused of failing to implement safety measures such as replacing the deck material, posting warning signs, monitoring temperatures, or requiring passengers to wear shoes.
The lawsuit also claims at least 25 other passengers experienced similar burn incidents and 42 filed complaints in the six years prior, with two previous cases allegedly leading to amputations.
