A paranormal investigator has called for a Government probe into UFO activity over Scotland.

Malcolm Robinson, who has written a string of books on the subject, has spent years campaigning for UK authorities to release files on ‘unusual aerial objects’ after a string of strange encounters in the Stirlingshire and Bonnybridge areas.

Along with Bonnybridge councillor Billy Buchanan, he has tried to persuade a string of former Prime Ministers to establish a formal inquiry into unexplained sightings in Scotland – once considered the UFO hotspot of the world.

Malcolm said at a time when the US officials are releasing documents and holding hearings acknowledging unusual objects in their airspace, the UK authorities must do the same.

He said: “Over the past several years, the United States Government, NASA, and the Pentagon have released numerous documents, reports, and video footage relating to unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs), more commonly known as UFOs. These disclosures have generated worldwide headlines and have demonstrated that the American authorities acknowledge the existence of incursions into their airspace by objects that remain unexplained.

“Congressional hearings have been held in Washington, attended by current and former military personnel, intelligence officials, and representatives from the United States Air Force, Navy, and Army. Many of these witnesses have testified under oath regarding encounters with unusual aerial objects displaying characteristics beyond conventional explanation.

Here in Scotland, Bonnybridge Councillor Billy Buchanan and I have spent many years campaigning for greater transparency regarding UFO sightings, particularly those reported in the Stirlingshire and Bonnybridge areas. Our aim has been simple: to encourage the British Government to establish a formal inquiry into UFO activity over Scotland. Unfortunately, our requests have consistently been met with indifference.

“The official position of the British Government has long been that, because these reported objects are not considered a direct threat to the defence of the United Kingdom, there is no justification for launching a dedicated investigation.

“If the United States Government is prepared to acknowledge unexplained incursions into its airspace and provide evidence to the public, why does the British Government continue to dismiss calls for greater transparency? Why is Westminster unwilling to examine a subject that has attracted serious attention from our closest ally?

“We believe the British public deserves answers. The time has come for the UK Government to follow the example set by the United States and undertake a thorough, open, and independent review of reported UFO activity within British airspace.”

Thirty years ago, Scotland was considered the global epicentre for UFO sightings.

In the 1990s, a flood of sightings of mystery objects in central Scotland came to be known as the Falkirk Triangle, attracting journalists from around the globe.

In Bonnybridge, Councillor Buchanan had begun collecting hundreds of reports from constituents who claimed to see strange lights and objects in the sky.

A public meeting was held by concerned residents in January 1993.

Videos, photographs and tales continued to emerge but the story drew accusations of fakery.

Malcolm continued to investigate reports alongside the councillor, following up leads and checking air traffic, police and military records.

He said: “For many years, both Councillor Buchanan and I have faced ridicule for raising concerns about the large number of UFO sightings reported over Bonnybridge and other parts of Scotland. However, recent developments in the United States, including official acknowledgements from the Pentagon and NASA that unexplained aerial phenomena warrant serious investigation, have strengthened our conviction that these reports should not be dismissed out of hand.

“While many questions remain unanswered, it is now clear that governments around the world are increasingly willing to recognise that unusual and unexplained activity is occurring in our skies. In that respect, both Billy and I feel a sense of vindication in having consistently called for this issue to be taken seriously.

“We call upon the British Government to adopt a policy of openness and transparency regarding UFO and UAP reports. We urge ministers to release all relevant files, reports, and footage that can safely be made public and to establish an independent inquiry into sightings across the United Kingdom.

“The British people deserve to be informed about matters that affect their airspace and national security. Transparency fosters public trust, encourages informed debate, and demonstrates a willingness to confront challenging questions rather than ignore them.

“The United States has begun that process. It is now time for the United Kingdom to do the same.”
