Oyo LG election: APM candidates drag party to court over alleged plans to conduct fresh primary 

Thirty three chairmanship and 351 councillorship candidates of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, have dragged the political party before a Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, ahead of the forthcoming local government election in the state.

DAILY POST reports that the local government election in Oyo State has been fixed to hold in December this year. 

The election is to be conducted by Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC.

Our correspondent learnt that the party had earlier conducted primary elections in all the local government areas and electoral wards. 

The primary which was held on 3rd August, 2026 produced 33 chairmanship candidates and 351 councillorship candidates across the state. 

However, the candidates have argument that the suit became necessary due to report which claimed that APM National Chairman is planning to nullify the primary election conducted on 3rd August. 

The suit has APM, its National Chairman, OYSIEC and Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC as defendants.

The appellants asked the court to stop the party from conducting a fresh primary election. 

The plaintiffs in the court sheet obtained by DAILY POST on Thursday, are asking the court to grant their requests.
