The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has described Governor Seyi Makinde’s recent call for United Nations intervention as shameful.

The party described the governor’s outburst as shocking.

The APC made the declaration in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare.

The statement was made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday.

DAILY POST reports that Makinde on Monday called on the UN to intervene and investigate the recent abduction in the state.

It was learnt that the students and teachers who were kidnapped in May were rescued on Friday.

Makinde, shortly after receiving the victims on behalf of the state on Monday, called on the UN to intervene in the matter.

However, the APC, in its reaction, said the governor should instead submit himself to investigation over the alleged diversion of local government funds, the abduction and brutal killings of Igangan residents, and the N7.7 billion surveillance aircraft deal.

The party also advised the governor to explain the alleged fire-fighting truck scam, the N50 billion Bodija explosion relief fund, and the Agbowo Shopping Complex contract.

Sadare, in the statement, said Makinde was not expected to make such a statement.

He added that the recent abduction could be attributed to a number of factors.

“Nigeria has been battling with banditry and related crimes in recent times, and this could be attributed to a number of factors. But most people are worried that Oyo State has emerged as the worst hit in the southern part of the country since 2019 when Gov. Makinde came on board. Meanwhile, events in the last two months have provided answers to many questions being raised in that regard. Oyo State has a governor who plays politics with everything, including the welfare and security of the masses.

“And if it becomes a must for Makinde to make such a call, he should be courageous enough to submit himself to investigations over the diversion of local government funds, the abduction and brutal killings of Igangan residents, the N7.7 billion surveillance aircraft deal, the fire-fighting truck scam, the possession of lethal weapons by Mukaila Auxiliary and others, the N50 billion Bodija Explosion Relief Fund, the Agbowo Shopping Complex contract, the Ibadan Airport and stadium upgrade scam, loan scandals, among others.”
