A safety recall involving roughly 213,500 “Goody King” magnetic toy sets was announced in the U.S. after reports that defective parts caused severe injuries, requiring surgery for at least two young children.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission warned that the product’s building blocks are prone to cracking or splitting open, leaving small internal magnets loose and creating a critical ingestion hazard for children.
If swallowed, these high-powered components can attract each other or other metal and become lodged in the digestive system. The CPSC warned this can potentially cause “perforations, twisting, and/or blockage of the intestines, blood poisoning and death.”
open image in galleryDistributor Yi Suen Commerce, a Hong Kong-based firm, has received at least 27 separate reports of the cubes fracturing, alongside the two confirmed cases where children ingested the loose magnets and required surgery to remove them.
The recall affects Goody King-branded Magnetic Building Cubes are in sets ranging from 45 to 300 pieces. The cubes contain small, strong magnets that connect the pieces, allowing users to build three-dimensional structures and designs.
The recalled magnetic cubes were sold in sets under 18 different style names, including Cute Zob, Dark Castle, Dinosaur, Farm, Firefighter, Forest, Galaxy, Game, Grassland Forest, Magic, Mineral Adventure, Sky Grass, Solid Blocks, Transparent Solid Blocks, Travel Game, Unicorn, Volcano Forest and Woods.
The model numbers for the recalled cubes can be found on the back of the product packaging.
Consumers in possession of the now-recalled magnetic toys are urged to stop using them immediately and contact Yi Suen Commerce for a full refund. More information on the affected model numbers and the recall can be found both on the CPSC’s notice and Goody King’s recall website.
In an online FAQ, Goody King noted that it will send prepaid shipping labels to customers who successfully register for the recall — and that refunds will be issued after the company physically receives the returned products. Receipts are not required.
The recalled toys were sold online through Amazon between January 2024 and July 2026 — under a variety of themes to build 3D designs like forests, dinosaurs and unicorns. They were priced between $17 and $50.
