Fans of HBO’s Chernobyl must watch this gripping Netflix series chronicling the world’s worst industrial catastrophe.
The Railway Men: The Untold Story of Bhopal 1984 arrived on Netflix back in 2023 and depicts the devastating toxic gas leak from the Union Carbide India Limited’s pesticide plant in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, reports the Express.
The four-part series spotlights the real-life heroism of station master Ghulam Dastagir and his colleagues at Bhopal Junction railway station as they worked to evacuate people on the night of the tragedy.
On December 2, 1984, the chemical factory exploded, releasing 40 tons of toxic gas into the atmosphere and immediately claiming 3,000 lives, while countless subsequent generations would suffer from cancer, stillbirths and various other illnesses.

The Railway Men captures the terror of the unfolding catastrophe, as station workers had to act swiftly to evacuate as many people from Bhopal as humanly possible.
Though less widely recognised than the 1986 nuclear power plant catastrophe, the Bhopal Disaster was equally devastating and its consequences continue to affect lives and remain evident even today.
The Railway Men features R. Madhavan, Kay Kay Menon, Mirzapur’s Divyenndu, and Babil Khan, son of the late Irrfan Khan.
