Osun State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with alleged conspiracy, attempted murder, assault occasioning harm and unlawful possession of prohibited firearms in Modakeke, Ife East Local Government Area.
The suspects were arrested following a petition addressed to the Commissioner of Police over the alleged offences.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said in a statement on Thursday that police operatives apprehended the suspects at about 2 a.m. on August 9, 2026.
The command identified the suspects as Olufemi Olatunji, 39; Ajayi Idowu, 31; Akingbala Oluwakemi, 40; and Adekunle Basirat, 40.
Police said searches conducted at the suspects’ residences and premises resulted in the recovery of two firearms, including a locally made cut-to-size firearm and a pump-action firearm.
According to the command, the locally made firearm was recovered from Basirat’s shop, while the pump-action firearm was recovered from Oluwakemi’s residence.
The police said Basirat was identified as the wife of Solomon Akinlabi, also known as “Indomine,” while Oluwakemi was identified as the wife of Akingbala Akindele, alias “Ostand.”
“The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting the police with the ongoing investigation,” the statement said.
In a separate operation, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit arrested six suspected members of an unlawful society following information about an alleged invasion of the campus of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, by armed hoodlums, during which two students were reportedly injured.
The six suspects were identified as Ajoba Akorede, 27; Adam Oseni, 27; Ogunrinde Ayomide, 21; Ogunlana Muheez, 26; Ajose Noah, 25; and Adeniyi Damola, 25.
The command said Akorede and Oseni confessed during interrogation to being members of the Aye confraternity, adding that it had not verified whether they were students of the institution.
The police, who said investigations into both cases were ongoing, added that the suspects would be charged in court upon completion of the investigations, while efforts were continuing to apprehend other suspects allegedly connected with the Modakeke case.
