One person has died while several houses were destroyed following a heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The incident occurred on Monday night, September 7, 2026, between 11:30 pm and midnight.
The incident affected parts of Shanga town, ’Yar Besse and some surrounding communities, leaving several residents with damaged homes and property.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Abubakar Aliyu Shanga, Special Adviser to the Kebbi State Governor on New Media.

According to the statement, the heavy rain and strong winds caused significant destruction in the affected communities, including the collapse of several houses and loss of property.
Following the incident, the chairman of Shanga Local Government Area, Abdullahi Abdullahi Mai Anguwa, visited the affected areas to assess the extent of the damage.
The council chairman is expected to present a report on the situation to the Kebbi State governor.
