Ondo reviews 2026 budget upward by N245bn to N769bn

The Ondo State Government on Tuesday disclosed that it had increased the 2026 budget from N524.410bn to N769.384bn, to enable it to carry out many developmental projects across the state.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa had earlier signed N524.410bn into law in December, a few days after it had been passed by the state House of Assembly.
A total of 42.11 per cent of the budget was meant for capital expenditure while 57.89 per cent was earmarked for recurrent expenditure.
Speaking with journalists after the State Executive Council meeting, the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr Olaolu Akindolire, said the addition to the budget was targeted at taking care of roads, water, healthcare and other critical infrastructure across the state.
According to him, the review in the budget followed a mid-year assessment of the 2026 Appropriation Law, which was assented to on December 29, 2025, and took effect on January 1, 2026.
He noted that the revised budget had been sent to the state House of Assembly for ratification.
He said, “The revised budget also makes additional funding provision for projects such as the Adegbola–St Mathias flyover along Oba Adesida Road in Alagbaka, Akure.
“Water and healthcare have also received additional funding, with anticipated development financing expected to support projects aimed at improving access to reliable potable water, while the healthcare allocation is expected to strengthen service delivery and respond to emerging needs.”
Akindolire also explained that the first and second quarter budget implementation appraisal reports showed varying performance among Ministries, Departments and Agencies, with some recording increased demands and nearing their approved provisions, while others experienced slower utilisation due to implementation challenges.
In his remarks, the state Commissioner for Information, Mr Idowu Ajanaku, said the administration would continue to give priority to the infrastructural development of the state.
“This administration would not relent in its bid to give priority to the infrastructural development across the state,” Ajanaku stated.
