The Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Wukari branch, Taraba state, has dismissed claims that it is mobilizing teachers to register for Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, describing the allegation as false and misleading.
The denial follows an online publication circulated which alleged that the union was going about encouraging teachers to participate in PVC registration.

In a statement issued by the branch chairman, Bawa baaku, on Saturday, the NUT said the report was entirely unfounded and did not represent its position or activities.

The union stressed that it remains a professional trade union and not a political organization, adding that it does not engage in partisan political activities.

“The primary mandate of the NUT is to protect the welfare of teachers, promote their professional development, safeguard their legitimate interests, and support the advancement of quality education,” the union stated.

The union urged its members, the general public, and other stakeholders to disregard the publication, describing it as misinformation aimed at misrepresenting its role and responsibilities.

It further clarified that all official positions and communications of the NUT Wukari branch are released only through its recognized and authorized communication channels.

Reaffirming its commitment to the teaching profession, the branch pledged to remain focused on improving teachers’ welfare, advancing educational standards, and promoting quality education in Wukari and beyond.
