Norway vs Senegal: Storms threaten to upend World Cup match

Heavy rain and potential flash flooding are forecast for the MetLife Stadium area in New Jersey, threatening the World Cup match between Norway and Senegal scheduled for Monday night.
The U.S. National Weather Service issued a flood watch for parts of New York City and New Jersey, including Bergen County where the stadium is located, anticipating up to two inches of rainfall per hour.
New York City Emergency Management issued a travel advisory and Mayor Zohran Mamdani urged residents to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and stay indoors if conditions become severe. “No destination is worth risking your safety,” he wrote.
While no weather delays have occurred in the first 11 days of the current tournament, previous events like last year’s Club World Cup experienced significant weather-related interruptions.
World Cup regulations state that if a match is abandoned due to force majeure after kickoff, it will recommence from the point of interruption rather than being replayed, with FIFA retaining the right to reschedule or relocate matches for safety reasons.
