Kenneth Stevenson MP is encouraging schools across his Airdrie and Shotts constituency to get involved in the World Cup Day of Dance as Scotland prepares for its opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The initiative, led by the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society and the Scottish Association of Teachers of Physical Education, brings together football, Scottish country dancing and physical activity in a nationwide celebration for schools.
Primary and secondary schools across Scotland are being invited to take part by learning and performing World Cup-themed dances.
Mr Stevenson said: “Scotland’s return to the World Cup is an exciting moment for football fans across the country, and the World Cup Day of Dance is a fun and engaging way for young people to be part of that occasion.
“The initiative combines physical activity, teamwork and Scottish culture in a way that is accessible to pupils of all ages and abilities.
“I would encourage schools across Airdrie and Shotts to consider taking part and help make this a memorable celebration ahead of Scotland’s World Cup campaign.”
The World Cup Day of Dance was officially launched at Hampden Park with former Scotland goalkeeper Alan Rough and pupils from Croftfoot Primary School in Glasgow.
Schools can take part in the World Cup Day of Dance on Friday, June 12.
