The National Orientation Agency, NOA, in Osun State has advised residents to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to preventive measures against the spread of Ebola Virus Disease.
The agency gave the warning in a statement issued by its State Director, Adebiyi Adefarasin Stephen on Tuesday amid heightened global concerns over the disease and the risk of cross-border transmission.
According to the statement, “the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has placed the country on high alert despite the absence of any confirmed Ebola case in Nigeria.”
Adebiyi, said “residents should take precautionary steps to safeguard themselves and their communities from the deadly disease.”
He explained that Ebola Virus Disease spreads through contact with the blood or body fluids of infected persons or animals.
The NOA boss stated that symptoms of the disease include sudden fever, weakness, vomiting, diarrhoea and unexplained bleeding.
He advised members of the public to wash their hands regularly with soap and clean water as part of efforts to prevent infection.
The NOA Director also urged residents to avoid contact with sick persons and bush meat, while encouraging prompt reporting of suspected cases to the nearest health facility.
“Early reporting and good hygiene are our strongest defence against Ebola,” Adefarasin said in the statement.
The agency called on residents across Osun State to remain calm, vigilant and proactive, while relying only on information released by official health authorities regarding the disease.
