Niger police arrest four over mob killing

The Niger State Police Command has disclosed that it arrested four suspected mobs for killing 30-year-old Sunday Pada in a mob action.

The suspects, Ibrahim Abubakar, Aliyu Onah,

Godwin Musa, and Aminu Bawa all of Korokpan area, Minna were alleged to have beaten and stabbed Pada to death.

According to the police, the suspects claimed to have heard somebody shout ‘thief’ following which they went after the deceased in what has been described as a gang up before he was mobbed to death.

The spokesman of the Command Wasiu Abiodun who confirmed the incident said the suspects were currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department for questioning on the allegation of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide .

Abiodun narrated the incident thus, “On 10th August 2026 at about 6.30am, based on information received that one Sunday Pada 30yrs of Gogala village, Shiroro was seriously beaten and stabbed to death in Korokpan area of Minna by some miscreants.

“Police operatives attached to Paiko Div moved to the scene but the suspects had escaped before their arrival, while the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.

“Fortunately, on Wednesday 12th August 2026, some of the suspects were discovered to be in NDLEA custody as a result of raid operations carried out in the area.

“Three suspects were released to the Police by the agency and one other was arrested; the suspects are: Ibrahim Abubakar, Aliyu Onah, Godwin Musa and Aminu Bawa all of Korokpan area, Minna.

“During investigation, it was revealed that the deceased was coming from a friend’s house, and the suspects claimed that somebody raised an alarm, shouting thief, thereby intercepted the said Sunday Pada, beat him up seriously and later stabbed him to death, as confesseɗ by the suspects.

“The four suspects are under investigation in SCID Minna for the offence of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide,” Abiodun concluded.
