- Shapiro had previously mocked the 2023 standalone episode Long, Long Time, which focuses on a tender love story between survivors Bill and Frank, complaining about its lack of zombies and deriding Offerman’s character as gay Ron Swanson.
- Reacting to the commentary, Offerman called Shapiro’s review insane, criticising his rampant homophobia and poor reading comprehension while noting that Shapiro managed to get eight details wrong in his brief recap.
- Offerman revealed he had previously incorporated a joke about Shapiro into his live music tour, but explained that he deliberately chooses not to engage with online hostility or social media figures such as Elon Musk.
