NHS England reported nearly 17,000 fewer A&E attendances than anticipated during England’s Euro 2024 matches.
The most significant decrease, an 11 per cent reduction, was observed in the hour leading up to kick-off.
Attendance also fell during specific matches, including the group-stage opener against Serbia and the quarter-final and final.
This dip in demand was often followed by a surge in patients after matches, particularly for trauma and musculoskeletal injuries, with a notable increase between 1 am and 2 am.
NHS England urged the public not to delay seeking medical help and to use services as normal, cautioning against activities that could lead to injuries after games.
