Nato jets scrambled to down Russian drone over Latvia
Nato fighter jet shoots down Russian drone over Latvia
Nato fighter jets successfully shot down a drone that had entered Latvian airspace from Russia on Monday.
Latvian authorities issued a temporary shelter-in-place warning for residents in eastern regions, which was lifted after the drone was neutralised.
The origin of the drone is currently unknown, though Ukraine has recently escalated long-range drone attacks on Russia, with some straying into Baltic states’ airspace.
This incident is the latest in a series of security concerns along Europe’s eastern border, fuelling worries about the conflict in Ukraine extending into Nato’s northern territories.
Last month, a suspected Ukrainian drone was also shot down by a Nato military jet over Estonia, highlighting ongoing regional tensions.
