The immediate past National Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mustapha Salihu, has been declared winner of the party’s Adamawa Central Senatorial Primary.

The primary was conducted on Saturday, May 23, across the seven local government areas of the Adamawa Central Zone after it was earlier postponed by the state leadership of the party, which cited logistical reasons.

Mustapha Salihu, who was the National Vice Chairman for the North-East until he was succeeded earlier this year, polled 147,219 votes to win the Adamawa Central senatorial ticket.

Eight other aspirants took part in the primary, including Saidu Hayatu Galadima, who got 32,436 votes; Abdulhamid Abbati, who got 14,833 votes; Hafsatu Ibrahim Modibbo, who got 9,679 votes; Aishatu Aliyu, who got 6,179 votes; Umar Buba Bindi, who got 3,930 votes; Rabi Andrew, who got 2,620 votes; Aminu Iya Abbas, who got 2,182 votes; and Abdulazeez Murtala Nyako, who got 1,372 votes.

In his acceptance speech, the ticket bearer, Salihu, thanked all who contributed to his victory and promised quality representation for the people of his constituency.

Salihu, who had first sought the Adamawa State governorship ticket of the APC but was made to step down for the party’s eventual governorship candidate, Ahmed Galadima, told newsmen who covered his declaration as the Adamawa Central ticket winner that he opted for the senatorial ticket in the interest of party unity.
