Motoring boss warns UK roads under strain amid scorching heat
- An amber extreme heat warning has been issued across parts of England as temperatures are expected to reach up to 38C.
- The AA has warned that soaring temperatures could cause road surfaces to soften.
- AA president Edmund King said: “The main risk for drivers isn’t that roads suddenly melt everywhere, but that already vulnerable patches can become tacky, uneven or start to deteriorate.”
- Mr King previously said that hotter summer conditions are fuelling the UK’s pothole crisis, which costs motorists £3.3bn a year in vehicle repairs.
- Drivers are being urged to reduce speeds, leave extra space, and expect to encounter substandard surfaces.
