Mother with postpartum psychosis not guilty of murder in case that echoes Clancy trial

Mother following Lindsay Clancy trial reveals reality of postpartum psychosis
  • A New York judge has found 26-year-old Dimone Fleming not criminally responsible due to mental disease for the 2022 killings of her two young sons.
  • Prosecutors agreed Fleming suffered from severe postpartum psychosis, hallucinations and delusions when she killed her children at a Bronx family shelter.
  • Fleming will avoid prison and remain in custody at a psychiatric facility for ongoing evaluations, with her next court hearing scheduled for 18 September.
  • Court reports revealed Fleming believed killing her three-year-old and 11-month-old sons was necessary to protect or “cleanse” them.
  • The verdict comes as a Massachusetts jury deliberates in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, whose defence similarly cited postpartum psychosis over the deaths of her three children.
