Arsenal could be in a dogfight this summer as they bid to tempt Morgan Rogers away from Aston Villa. And moving to the Emirates may be his dream destination, with Mikel Arteta’s side expected to compete for all the major honours again next season.

Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City are also monitoring the situation but the midfielder is reportedly open to a move to north London.

The Telegraph reports that Villa are hopeful of resisting offers for Rogers and have no intention of selling the England international. The 23-year-old made 26 goal contributions last season, including a goal and an assist in the Europa League final.

But while Villa aren’t keen on selling, the midfielder is eyeing a move. His contract in Birmingham runs until 2031 with BBC Sport stating he would cost well over £80million.

With this in mind, a bid of £100m should be more than enough to force Villa’s hand into allowing the 23-year-old to leave. Securing Rogers would be a step toward a more unpredictable approach for Arteta, after he admitted he wants to model his team on Paris Saint-Germain.

After the Gunners fell to a penalty shoot-out defeat to the French side last weekend, the Spaniard said “yes” when asked if he would incorporate some of PSG’s style into his team’s future development.

Highlighting the ability to change games, Arteta added: “The individual action that they have for sure.”

Arsenal’s co-chair Josh Kroenke also made a telling statement on the club’s ambitions for the transfer window. He said: “We are going to look to strengthen because we know that teams around us are going to get better. If you are not trying to continually evolve and improve, you are standing still.”

This desire to push for solo brilliance and the hierarchy’s seal of approval to spend could be the perfect storm for Arsenal to get their man in Rogers. The 23-year-old has travelled with England to the World Cup this summer and is hoping to be a regular starter for Thomas Tuchel.

Rogers could return from the United States to a major transfer battle and will likely be forced to decide whether to stick with Villa or twist to the reigning Premier League champions.
