The Nigerian military has neutralized scores of insurgents and destroyed a gun truck during a precision air interdiction mission under Operation HADIN KAI in Borno state.
The development was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama in a post on his X handle on Sunday.
According to military sources quoted by Makama, the operation was conducted on June 4 after credible intelligence and aerial surveillance identified terrorist activity in the Madamari general area of Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State.
The sources revealed that an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform detected about 15 suspected terrorists who had dismounted from a gun truck and assembled beneath a tree within the target location.
Following positive identification and confirmation of hostile activity, the ISR platform designated the target and guided a strike aircraft to engage the group.
“The strike aircraft executed a precise engagement on the terrorist gathering, resulting in the neutralisation of all the terrorists at the location,” a military source said.
In a subsequent operation, the surveillance platform tracked the terrorists’ gun truck and designated it for another precision strike. The vehicle was destroyed, while four additional terrorists were reportedly neutralized.
Makama further revealed a Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) conducted after the mission indicated that surviving terrorists in the surrounding area fled in different directions in an apparent attempt to escape further air attacks, underscoring the effectiveness of the operation.
