Michigan couple accused of abusing adopted children in two states plead no contest

Michigancouple Jason and Jessica Klimp pleaded no contest to first-degree child abuse after severely abusing two of their adopted children.
The abuse included locking the children in dog cages, forcing them into makeshift straitjackets, and causing severe dehydration and malnutrition.
An investigation began in February 2024 after one child was hospitalized in Tennessee with severe dehydration and malnutrition, leading to the discovery of the abuse at their Wexford County home.
The couple previously pleaded guilty to aggravated child abuse in Tennessee, receiving a 10-year sentence, which they will serve concurrently with their upcoming Michigan sentences.
Their parental rights have been terminated, with Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel stating that the convictions aim to provide justice and healing for the children.
