Michigan couple accused of abusing adopted children in two states plead no contest

(Fentress County Sheriff’s Office)
  • Michigan couple Jason and Jessica Klimp pleaded no contest to first-degree child abuse after severely abusing two of their adopted children.
  • The abuse included locking the children in dog cages, forcing them into makeshift straitjackets, and causing severe dehydration and malnutrition.
  • An investigation began in February 2024 after one child was hospitalized in Tennessee with severe dehydration and malnutrition, leading to the discovery of the abuse at their Wexford County home.
  • The couple previously pleaded guilty to aggravated child abuse in Tennessee, receiving a 10-year sentence, which they will serve concurrently with their upcoming Michigan sentences.
  • Their parental rights have been terminated, with Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel stating that the convictions aim to provide justice and healing for the children.
