A thriller praised as “outstanding” and “a masterpiece” is available to watch for free on ITV.
Set against the backdrop of Scotland’s legal system, The Victim features John Hannah and Line of Duty‘s Kelly Macdonald and centres on a mother accused of exposing her son’s killer’s new identity on the internet.
“Hard working family man Craig Myers is the victim of a vicious attack, after being identified online as a notorious child murderer,” a synopsis said.
“Is he simply the tragic victim of mistaken identity; or the dangerous killer he is suspected of being? Opening on day one of a criminal trial in Edinburgh’s High Court, The Victim follows the legal proceedings, while also covering the events leading up to the trial.”
Kelly portrays Anna Dean, whose son was killed 15 years earlier, while James Harkness takes on the role of Craig. John appears as DI Steven Grover, who becomes embroiled in the criminal investigation, reports the Daily Record.

The series – shot throughout Edinburgh, Glasgow, and the Inverclyde area – can now be binged on ITVX, having originally captivated audiences when it premiered in 2019.
“This is an absolutely superb four part drama, that will have you moved, gripped and definitely captivated,” one viewer shared on IMDb.com, noting it was “not to be missed”.
“A masterpiece that can never get the praise that it deserves,” remarked another, while a further fan declared: “This was outstanding! Really gripping and relevant story line. Acting was great as was the camera work… Absolutely loved it!”
