Multiple rail services in the North West and West Midlands are facing major disruption this afternoon after a person was tragically hit by a train.
Journeys are either being cancelled, delayed or diverted while emergency services work at the scene, with disruption impacting East Midlands Railway (EMR), Avanti West Coast and CrossCountry.
East Midlands Railway said on X that their services were impacted due to someone being hit by a train between Crewe and Stoke-On-Trent, reports Manchester Evening News.
A CrossCountry spokesperson said: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Stafford and Stockport some lines are blocked. Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 30 minutes or diverted.”

East Midlands Railway has shared a list of rail replacement bus times for journeys between Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent. The bus journeys are estimated to take approximately 30 minutes.

Passengers are facing disruption until at least 7:30pm this evening, East Midlands Railway has said.
“At present we are expecting the line to re-open in the next 3 hours,” the operator said in a service update on its website. “As soon as the line is open again, our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect our advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 19:30.”

Rail replacement buses are now available to those facing disruption today, with services running in both directions between Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent, National Rail says.
The first bus is estimated to arrive at Crewe at 5pm, while in Stoke-on-Trent, the first bus is set to arrive at 4:45pm.

A person has sadly been hit by a train between Crewe and Stoke-On-Trent, East Midlands Railway has confirmed.
