As they prepare for a return to the Champions League, Manchester United have attracted plenty of transfer chatter. Michael Carrick is firmly in place as manager and central midfield looks like being one of the most important areas to address.
Casemiro has completed a permanent exit, with the likes of Rasmus Hojlund, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia also moving on. The Brazil international was a regular last season and at least one new midfielder will be required – and possibly more if Carrick and the club’s higher-ups decide a deeper squad is needed for the extra European commitments.
Atalanta and Brazil midfielder Ederson has all-but confirmed his arrival, while Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni – who we have an update on today – is another of the names to be linked. He isn’t the only midfielder in the mix, though, with noise persisting around other targets including Mateus Fernandes.
United might not be done when it comes to outgoings as well, though there are some tricky elements to navigate. Here are our latest lines from around Old Trafford.

Eduardo Camavinga’s reluctance to leave Real Madrid could open the door for Manchester United to land Aurelien Tchouameni, according to The Athletic. Madrid’s new manager Jose Mourinho is said to be keen to free up space for a new creative midfielder – possibly Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez – by offloading at least one member of the current crop.
Fede Valverde is not for sale, while Dani Ceballos is reportedly prepared to leave on a free despite having a year left on his current deal. With Camavinga considering an exit “impossible”, though, Tchouameni could yet leave to help free up funds for a big-money Fernandez swoop.
The Mail has this week named Tchouameni as one of six midfielders on United’s shortlist to join Ederson in a new-look midfield. The other five all currently play in the Premier League: Tyler Adams, Carlos Baleba, Mateus Fernandes, Alex Scott and Adam Wharton.
Senne Lammens’ strong debut season at Old Trafford has left questions over the other goalkeepers on United’s books. Andre Onana and Radek Vitek have both been linked with moves as they pursue first-team football but there’s still uncertainty over where the pair will be playing their club football next season.

Onana spent last season on loan at Trabzonspor, with the Turkish club’s president Ertugrul Dogan indicating a desire to seal a permanent move for the Cameroon international. However, according to Sabah, last season’s Super Lig third-place finishers have also begun exploring alternatives and could instead move for Wolves stopper Jose Sa.
As for Vitek, an impressive year on loan at Bristol City has left some wondering if he might step up to become Lammens’ No.2 next term. The 22-year-old has previously expressed a desire to play regularly, though, so it remains to be seen how comfortable he would be sitting on the bench.

Fresh reports from The Mail suggest newly-promoted Premier League sides Coventry, Hull and Ipswich are all keen on the Czech youngster. United are said to be open to a sale, while an Old Trafford return for Sam Johnstone is among the possibilities as they go after an experienced back-up to Lammens next season.
