Manchester United have been made aware of Barcelona’s plan regarding Marcus Rashford after his successful season in Spain. The England star is currently set for a return to Old Trafford with the La Liga champions yet to trigger the £26million buy option in his contract.

The 28-year-old will be focused on the World Cup but will surely be wanting a resolution to his career after spending the last 18 months out on loan. Michael Carrick has enjoyed a successful start at United and will hope to keep up the winning spirit he’s resurrected with a triumphant transfer window.

With only seven weeks remaining until United’s first pre-season friendly, work is very much already underway for the Englishman to clinch the signings he believes can propel United into becoming legitimate title contenders. Mirror Football has delved into the weekend’s latest stories regarding the Premier League giants.

Marcus Rashford’s future remains up in the air and there’s only one way he could return to Barcelona, according to Mail Sport. They report that the La Liga champions are aiming to sign the United star for £13million – half of his £26m buy option.

The Red Devils have so far shown a reluctance to accept anything less than the agreed fee with the report adding that should United insist on the payment of the full fee, Rashford will not return to Spain next season.

Barca reportedly have until June 15 to trigger the buy option, according to Sky Sports, but have already acquired a left-winger in Anthony Gordon in a £69.3m deal with Newcastle. Even prior to the 25-year-old’s arrival, Rashford hinted that extending his time in Spain was not a done deal.

After winning the league, Rashford said: “This is the perfect way I want it to end. I’m very happy, I just want to enjoy today. I live in the moment. At the end of the season we will see.

“I came here to win and we do this so I’m very happy. It’s an incredible feeling. Over the season we deserved it, we were the best team. We had some bad moments but we always come back and fight to improve.”
