A man was found dead at a beauty spot in the early hours of this morning.
Emergency crews scrambled to Sourlie Wood in Irvine, Ayrshire, at around 4.30am on Friday, July 17, and discovered the body.
Police have confirmed the death is being treated as unexplained but added that there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.
An image form the scene taken this morning shows two police vehicles and a fire appliance stationary on the A736 as traffic builds up behind them.
The area is a popular woodland that was formerly used as a coalfield. A large pond is situated on the site and a cycle path runs through the area connecting it to Eglinton Country Park.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.30am on Friday, 17 July, 2026, officers were called to the Sourlie Wood area of Irvine following the death of a man.
“The death is being treated as unexplained, however there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
