The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a man in connection with the alleged defilement of his eight-month-old stepdaughter in Toro Local Government Area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu.

According to the statement, a report was received on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at about 5:34pm, alleging that Balarabe Adamu, a resident of Lame in Toro LGA and stepfather of the victim, “sexually abused his 8-month-old stepdaughter, who was brought to his residence by his wife.”

Following the incident, the victim was immediately taken to the General Hospital, Toro, for medical examination and treatment.

“Upon receipt of the report, operatives attached to Gumau Division swiftly responded and arrested the suspect. He is currently in custody and undergoing investigation,” the statement said.

CP Aliyu condemned the alleged act and assured members of the public that the case would be thoroughly investigated.

He added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation, in accordance with the law.

The command reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on all forms of sexual violence and child abuse.

It urged parents, guardians and community leaders to remain vigilant and report suspicious acts to the nearest police station for prompt intervention.

The command said further updates on the case would be communicated to the public in due course.
