Josh Maja has completed his move to Ligue 1 club Le Havre on a free transfer, the Super Eagles confirmed on their X handle on Friday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

“Josh Maja has joined Ligue 1 side Le Havre from West Brom. Wishing him all the best in this new chapter,” @SSE_NGA wrote.

The 27-year-old had been a free agent since leaving Sky Bet Championship club West Bromwich Albion last month following the expiration of his contract, after turning down a new deal from the Hawthorns.

He is set to sign a two-year contract with the option of a further year at Le Havre, who identified the Nigerian as a key addition to their attack following the departure of Issa Soumare to fellow Ligue 1 side Rennes.

The move marks a return to French football for Maja, who previously enjoyed a productive spell with Bordeaux, scoring 29 goals in 93 appearances.

He spent three years at West Brom, scoring 19 goals across all competitions, though he played a bit-part role in the 2025/26 Championship campaign, managing four league goals in forty appearances.

Across his career for club and country, Maja has scored 81 goals in 291 appearances.

The Sunderland academy graduate has one cap for the Super Eagles, earned in a friendly against Ukraine in 2019, which ended 2-2, under then-coach Gernot Rohr.

Having narrowly avoided relegation last season, Le Havre will be hoping Maja can provide the goals needed to steer them further away from another battle against the drop, while the striker will be aiming to reignite his career in a league where he has previously thrived.
