ITV’s crime drama dubbed ‘beautiful’ and ‘cosy’ is proving popular with viewers on ITVX.

The series, which launched in April, comes from Hotel Portofino creator Matt Baker and it’s essential viewing for Death in Paradise fans.

Examining the sinister underbelly of island existence, A Taste for Murder chronicles DCI Joe Mottram (Warren Brown), a detective who, following his wife’s unexpected death, journeys to Capri with his daughter, Angelica (Beau Gadson).

Upon reaching the town to see his in-laws, Joe starts collaborating with local law enforcement while processing his bereavement, reports the Express.

Completing the ensemble, Downton Abbey star Phyllis Logan features as Joe’s mother-in-law, Elena Da Vinale, while Italian performer Urbano Barberini plays her husband, chef Gennaro, and Cristiana Dell’Anna takes on the role of Police Inspector Lara Sarrancino.

Presently, A Taste for Murder hasn’t been commissioned for a second series; nevertheless, viewers have applauded the programme on IMDb.

One said: “Awesome show – beautiful scenery – great characters – superb writing – amazing actors. Very highly recommended. It deserves to be renewed for another season.

“Also, a nice escape with the cinematography and I.T. inspires [you] to go and create tasty Italian meals.”

“It has great characters and intriguing storylines,” added another. “Warren Brown’s character, Joe, really played well. It was also great to see Phyllis Logan, I like any TV series she appears in.

A third enthusiastically chimed in: “Glorious Italian setting, brilliant cast, a deliciously escapist watch. I like a good cosy procedural but this is a notch above as the visuals are really cinematic and classy.

“Warren Brown and Phyllis Logan are a class act and the rest of the cast is just as good.”

Echoing these sentiments, a fourth viewer remarked: “Phyllis Logan brought me to the table, the remaining cast kept me until dessert. I really love this story. It has everything, love, forgiveness, food, Italy, & mystery.”
