London’s iconic marathon to switch to weekend format for first time ever
London Marathon runners’ joy as they cross finish line
The 2027 London Marathon will be held over two days, Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 April, marking the first time the iconic race has expanded to a weekend format.
This unique double event will allow a record 100,000 participants to take part, significantly increasing the number of runners compared to previous years.
Organisers anticipate the expanded event will raise over £150m for good causes and generate a £400m social and economic benefit for the UK.
Participants will be entered into a ballot for either the Saturday or Sunday race, with elite men’s and women’s races split across the two days.
Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events, described the 2027 event as a “once-in-a-generation one-time-only reimagining” of the marathon.
