The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed that three people, including a pregnant woman and a nursing mother, were killed by lightning in Gambiri village, Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The Bauchi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed the incident, saying, “Yes, it is true that a thunderstorm has killed three people in Gambiri village.”
A resident who identified himself as Abubakar Hussain said the victims were killed when lightning struck the room where they were staying at about 5:29 pm on Monday.
According to him, the victims were buried at about 11am on Tuesday. He identified them as Hauwa Juli, who delivered her baby seven days ago, and her daughter, Fatima.
He said Habiba, the pregnant woman, was a sibling of Hauwa Juli, adding that the newborn baby survived the incident.
He added that the incident caused deep shock and grief among residents, disrupting economic and social activities as the community mourned the victims.
