Goodyear plans to close its Fayetteville, North Carolina, tire manufacturing plant by the end of 2027, impacting up to 1,700 employees.
The company stated the closure is necessary to strengthen its competitiveness and adapt to changes in the industry.
This decision follows Goodyear reporting $249 million in losses during the first three months of 2026, with significant declines in North and South American markets.
Factors contributing to poor sales include rough winter weather, cautious consumers, and rising oil prices due to the Iran War, which increases tire production costs.
Fayetteville Mayor Mitch Colvin expressed disappointment but committed to helping affected workers find new opportunities.
