LaLiga: Why I substituted Vinicius Junior against Real Sociedad – Mourinho

Real Madrid head coach, Jose Mourinho has explained why he substituted Vinicius Junior during his side’s LaLiga 4-1 win over Real Sociedad on Wednesday.

Mourinho decided to take Vinicius off and bring on Yan Diomande in the 84th minute of the encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu.

A goal from Vinicius and a hat-trick from Kylian Mbappe gave Los Blancos victory over Sociedad.

Speaking during his post-match interview, Mourinho said he substituted Vinicius because he wanted the Brazilian to rest, with Real Madrid’s next game against Malaga scheduled for Sunday.

“I would never have taken Vinicius off without the goal and without the positive feeling of playing well in the second half.

“I substituted him because he also needs to rest a bit, and there is a match in three days. I thought it would be good for him, especially since last season he occasionally received a few whistles, to feel the affection of the fans,” Mourinho explained.
