Lagos Assembly begins review of Sanwo-Olu’s 2026 budget reordering

The Lagos State House of Assembly has commenced the review of the state government’s proposed reordering of the 2026 Appropriation Law following a request by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The review is being conducted by the House Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, which has begun examining the proposed adjustments to determine how available government resources can be more effectively deployed to priority projects and programmes across the state.

In a statement issued on Monday through the Assembly’s official X handle, the House said the exercise was intended to ensure that the proposed changes would deliver greater value and impact to residents.

The committee, chaired by Hon. Lukman Sahaad Olumoh, is paying particular attention to ongoing capital projects, with emphasis on ensuring that projects that have reached advanced stages of completion receive adequate funding to enable their timely completion.

The lawmakers are also examining proposed interventions in critical areas, including infrastructure development, drainage and flood control.

The scrutiny follows the resolution of the House after receiving the governor’s request for the budget reordering.

According to the Assembly, the committee is expected to submit recommendations aimed at promoting the prudent and effective management of public funds while ensuring that the 2026 budget delivers greater benefits to residents.

The exercise is part of the legislature’s oversight responsibility and is intended to help align the state’s spending priorities with projects and programmes considered most critical to Lagos at the current stage of the fiscal year.
