The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man simply identified as Godwin for allegedly defiling two minors in Ogale, Eleme Local Government Area of the state.
PUNCH Metro learnt on Thursday that the suspect was said to have been arrested on Monday by operatives of the Eleme Police Division at his residence following a formal complaint lodged by the parents of the girls, aged 13 and 11, respectively.
The father of the older minor, Cletus, whose other names were withheld, alleged that the suspect’s style of operation was to send the two children on an errand and later invite them into his room after they returned with the item he had asked them to buy.
According to him, “Then he (suspect) will lock the door, turn up the volume of his music and assault the children.”
Cletus further alleged that after the incident, the suspect threatened to deal severely with the underage girls if they disclosed what had happened to them.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Blessing Agabe, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, saying the investigation is ongoing.
Agabe, however, said the police were yet to receive the medical report following the medical form given to the parents of the girls to ascertain the veracity of the allegations.
She stated, “Yes, I can confirm the arrest of the suspect. He is in our custody. However, the police issued a medical form to allow the girls to undergo an examination.
“As I speak to you, we are still waiting for the results because they will show if there was penetration and so on. If that happens, then we (the Police) will transfer the case to the appropriate bureau.
“So we are still investigating, and the form we have issued is part of that investigation.”
