Kebbi State Police Command has reactivated Operation Velvet, a traffic enforcement exercise aimed at improving road safety, enforcing traffic regulations and maintaining order across the state.

The development was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman.

According to the statement, the operation will commence on Friday, August 14, 2026, and cover violations involving tinted-glass permits, one-way driving, vehicle registration, fake or obscured number plates and other traffic-related offences.

The Commissioner of Police, Umar M. Hadejia, said the exercise would complement ongoing security operations, noting that criminals could exploit unregistered vehicles and obscured number plates to evade detection and facilitate criminal activities.

The command directed officers participating in the exercise to conduct themselves professionally and respect the rights of road users.

It warned that officers found engaging in extortion, harassment or other forms of misconduct would face disciplinary action.

The command urged motorists to ensure their vehicles comply with applicable regulations and to observe traffic rules.

It also encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities, extortion or unprofessional conduct by police personnel through appropriate channels.
