Kano govt declares Tuesday public holiday for Takutaha

The Kano State Government has declared Tuesday, September 1, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate the Takutaha celebration, marking the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The declaration was contained in a statement issued by the Office of the Head of Service and signed by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Rukayya Uba Sulaiman, on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the work-free day, which falls on 19th Rabi’ul Awwal 1448AH, is to enable workers and residents to participate in the celebration and reflect on the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet.

The Head of Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, urged civil servants to use the holiday meaningfully by embodying the values taught by the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

She specifically highlighted honesty, patience, kindness, justice, peaceful coexistence and service to humanity.

Maimota also urged workers to remain professional, dedicated and uphold good character in the discharge of their official responsibilities, in line with the values of the Kano State Civil Service.

She prayed for a peaceful and successful Takutaha celebration and wished the people of Kano State a joyous occasion.
