The Catholic Diocese of Kano has disowned an ex-seminarian, Peter Umeanuka, who allegedly parades himself as an ordained Catholic deacon while operating a prayer ministry in the Sabon Gari area of Kano.
The Diocese, in an official disclaimer dated August 7, 2026, said Umeanuka operates Divine Solution Ministry at No. 80 Onitsha Road, Sabon Gari, Kano, allegedly under the guise of being an ordained deacon of the Catholic Church.
The disclaimer, signed by the Diocesan Chancellor, Very Rev. Fr. Abraham Ameh, stated that Umeanuka was formerly a major seminarian of the Diocese at Mother of Good Counsel Parish, Emir Road, Sabon Gari.
According to the Diocese, Umeanuka was asked to discontinue his formation after efforts to address what it described as a psychological health challenge proved unsuccessful.
The Church alleged that the former seminarian now wears clerical regalia, presents himself as an ordained deacon and uses a monstrance to bless people during activities at his ministry.
The Diocese stressed that Umeanuka was never ordained as a Catholic deacon and said it had no connection with Divine Solution Ministry or its activities.
“With this letter, the Catholic Church in Kano distances itself from the activities of Divine Solution Ministry and from ex-seminarian Peter Umeanuka,” the Diocese said.
It warned that it would not be liable for any physical, financial, psychological or spiritual harm that Catholics may suffer from associating with the ministry.
The Diocese therefore advised Catholics who associate with the ministry or transact with Umeanuka to do so at their own risk.
