Justin Gaethje scores upset UFC championship win in controversial White House fight
Trump and Dana White arrive on White House balcony to attend UFC Freedom Fight
Justin Gaethje achieved a major upset at UFC Freedom 250, defeating Ilia Topuria via corner stoppage to claim the undisputed UFC lightweight title, marking Topuria’s first professional career loss.
Gaethje, who entered the bout as a significant underdog, secured the undisputed championship on his third attempt after previous title challenges against Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira.
The fight was controversially allowed to continue after the third round despite a doctor advising the referee to stop the bout due to the damage sustained by Topuria, who was eventually unable to proceed after the fourth round.
In the co-main event, Ciryl Gane delivered another upset by stopping Alex Pereira in the second round to win the interim heavyweight belt, preventing Pereira from becoming the first three-weight champion in UFC history.
