Jigawa poly to commercialise workshops, labs to boost revenue

The management of Jigawa State Polytechnic, Dutse, has concluded plans to commercialise its laboratories and workshops to boost its Internally Generated Revenue.
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, on Monday by the Public Relations Officer of the polytechnic, Salima Sa’ad.
Sa’ad said the polytechnic management, at its 9th Regular Management Committee meeting held on Thursday, February 2, 2026, constituted a seven-man Commercialisation Committee to drive the initiative.
She said, “The committee, chaired by the Deputy Rector of the Polytechnic, Engineer Saleh Yakubu, was mandated to identify equipment in laboratories and workshops whose services could be commercialised.”
According to her, the initiative is aimed at improving the utilisation of the polytechnic’s facilities and generating additional IGR for the institution.
Sa’ad added that “the move is also designed to strengthen industry collaboration and promote innovation, entrepreneurship and community service.”
She explained that the committee carried out its assignment through consultations with relevant colleges and inspection of available facilities.
According to the statement, “The committee identified selected laboratories and workshops with capacity to provide specialised services to government agencies, private organisations, industries, educational institutions and members of the public.”
Furthermore, the polytechnic’s PRO stated that the committee had the terms of reference “to identify all laboratory and workshop equipment whose services may be commercialised and to develop modalities for the commercialisation of the identified facilities and services.”
She added that the committee was also mandated “to recommend any measure incidental to the effective implementation and sustainability of the commercialisation programme.”
According to her, the committee completed its assignment and presented its report to the Rector of the polytechnic, Dr Suleiman Badayi, on behalf of the management on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
She stated that “after receiving the report, the Rector promised to carefully study the report for necessary action.”
