Although Jana Kramer’s divorce from Mike Caussin was far from easy, the actress is grateful that the experience led her to God.
“I really truly found faith through my divorce,” Kramer, 42, exclusively shared with Us Weekly before the Saturday, May 30, premiere of Where the Heart Lands on Lifetime. “I was forced to be alone, and then that’s when I struggled. … It wasn’t until my divorce that I was just, like, I am so alone — and then I realized that I wasn’t.”
Finding faith through divorce was “a very powerful and beautiful experience” for the actress as she developed a personal relationship with God.
“Getting baptized, leaning into the church and going to church and talking to my friends who were also believers,” she shared. “It’s always there.”
Kramer and Caussin, 39 — who share Jolie, 10, and Jace, 7 — split in April 2021 after nearly six years of marriage. The One Tree Hill star went on to marry Allan Russell in July 2024 after welcoming their son, Roman, eight months earlier.
“My husband went to church as a kid, but he’s now going more with me and just making it be a part of our family,” Kramer said. “We pray and my daughter says the most beautiful prayers. … I wish that was instilled in me as a kid. … I always call her my little prayer warrior. She’s beautiful and it’s been great.”
During the May 25 episode of her iHeartRadio “Whine Down” podcast, Kramer couldn’t help but celebrate her modern family when recalling her Easter celebrations.

When describing her holiday, Kramer said both Russell, 45, and Caussin were in the same church pew as they worshipped Jesus as a family.
“Faith has helped strengthen everything,” Kramer said. “Every day, I’m still learning. I still ask questions. I still am like, ‘But I don’t understand this piece’ or ‘I don’t understand why.’ My pastor says, ‘That’s faith, keep asking questions.’”
This weekend, Kramer has another reason to give thanks as she celebrates the release of her new movie titled Where the Heart Lands.

Directed and cowritten by Haylie Duff, the film features Kramer playing a female horse trainer who can’t help but find a love interest played by Tyler Johnson.
“It’s got the conflict. It’s got a little bit of drama. It’s got horses, and I just knew Haylie was going to take it into a beautiful direction with her directing,” Kramer said before teasing her own character. “She’s got a reputation that she has to uphold. and the love interest Tyler comes in. He inherits the farm and the land that I’m working on, so he comes in and struggles with what to do. But he might find love along the way with me and the horses.”
Where the Heart Lands premieres on Lifetime Saturday, May 30, at 8 p.m. ET.
